Back pain? Neck Pain? Leg Pain? Arm Pain? Dr David Brown, Chiropractor. Clinic at 35 Goldstone Villas Hove East Sussex. Call 01273 206868 for your chiropractic needs.
Your First Visit
When you meet with the Chiropractor, they will discuss with you, your health
and your reasons for asking for chiropractic help.
The Chiropractor will enquire about your past health history as well as your
current complaint or pain. The questions asked are extremely important to the Chiropractor to ensure that chiropractic care is firstly, appropriate for the
condition, and to then, establish an overall health picture. If Chiropractic is
not suitable, you may be referred to your GP or relevant specialist.
Examination
Once your case history is complete, the Chiropractor will examine you.
The examination concentrates on neuromusculoskeletal system (nerves, muscle
and joints), but it can be necessary to check other things such as the heart, lungs and abdomen to rule out other causes.
Gowns are made available for you to wear for the examination.
The Chiropractor may also wish to take or view X-Rays or obtain other information from your GP and where appropriate refer you for an MRI/CT Scan.
Report of Findings
Before treatment starts, the Chiropractor will inform you clearly, what is wrong, what can be done about it and what you would expect when you receive your first adjustment. You will be informed of exercises or changes in your lifestyle and diet that will be beneficial. Part of getting better is up to the patient so following instructions and advice is essential.
At this point, you will be advised of all costs that relate to your future care.
Treatment
Chiropractic treatment mainly involves safe, gentle, specific adjustments,
carried out by hand, to free joints in the spine or other areas of the body that are not working properly. Often, this requires a short thrust to a joint that can result in an audible crack and may bring relief of symptoms and an increase of well-being.
This is no instant cure, with some patients experiencing temporary symptoms such as pain and soreness around the areas being treated. Spinal disc problems may appear to flare up in the early stages of treatment and where there is already inflammation, your condition may seem worse to start with.
Treatment to the neck area may give light headiness and occasionally a short-lived headache.
Apart from the adjustment, the chiropractor may use a wide variety of techniques including ice, heat ultrasound and exercises.
First Treatment
Your first treatment or adjustment, as it is called, generally does not hurt -
sometimes there may be some short-term discomfort . This will pass quickly for most patients. Follow-up treatments are more pleasant, as the symptoms improve and one is more at ease with the Chiropractor.
There are generally less risks with Chiropractic than many other treatments
for the problem. Serious side effects are extremely uncommon. Research shows that Chiropractic is one of the safest and most effective forms of treatment available.
X-rays
Decisions to take X-rays are always in consultation with the patient.
The Chiropractor will weigh the risks and the benefits and advise accordingly.
Typical examples when X-rays may be needed are for recent injuries, older patients whose bone structure may have altered over time and unusual examination findings or a history of diseases.
